The Warrior and the Child
Hong Fa, popularily called Kung Fu, is derived from Chi Gong. While it has excellent defensive applications, it is practiced mostly for health reasons. Kung Fu is an excellent way to increase energy and well being. When practiced properly, Hong Fa heals sickness, makes people beautiful and extends the duration of life.
Chi Gong literally means Breath/Energy Work. There are thousands of styles of Chi Gong, but they are all based on the same principle - relaxation, childlikeness and joy.
The Goal is to become fluid, to be able to react to the world with only reflexes, to access the infinite reservoir of energy. As you practice Chi Gong, simply repeat "Wisdom, Compassion, Empathy" with each ingoing and outgoing breath. Become like a child.
Why would a Martial Artist long for, lets say childlikeness? Because children are authentic, and because the innocence of a Child is something worthy protecting. In fact in Buddhism there is the Myth of Shambhala, a Society of Enlightened Warriors. The meaning of the word Shambhala could be translated as "The Smile of the Child". The Greatest Warriors guard the Smile of the Child.

Lotus Meditation
Among 1000s of other things, Sifu Harvey teaches an ancient meditation technique. The meditation is simple but very powerful.
While sitting crosslegged put your hands on the knees with the fingers touching and pointing upwards. As you slowly breathe in, imagine a lotus as your hand. As you open the hand imagine a lotus blooming, supported by the chi of your incoming breath. As you breathe out, move the fingers until they touch again, imagining the lotus closing. All the while you intend the way you want to be.
If you want to be beautiful, affirm "I am beautiful" and see yourself as beautiful. In order to become very effective, affirm "I am secure, guided, wise, powerful"
This meditation, which has been trasmitted from master to disciple for over 4000 years is supported by the Meridian Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is one of the most powerful and transformative meditations you will ever do.
Internal Martial Arts
Besides the physical exercises commonly understood as Martial Arts, there is an inner component.
Sun Lutang identified the following as the criteria that distinguish an internal martial art:
Exercise: Send Chi up along the spine and down the center of the body in a continous flow. This is called the Microcosmic Orbit
